Years ago, sometime around 2009 to 2010, I was trying my hardest to figure out a way to make money online.  I read countless articles and tried tons of websites.  I tried surveys, I tried content writing, heck I tried pretty much everything.

During my search, I came across a site called Swagbucks.  At the time, the big pull was you could earn a swagbucks, or SB, for doing web searches.  I did web searches all the time!  I signed up and just used Swagbucks for any searches I would be doing anyway, usually at the office since much of what I searched was work-related.

Before I knew it, I had several hundred Swagbucks in my account.  In probably what was a couple of months I had 500, which I was excited to find out meant I could cash them in for a $5 Amazon gift card.

I was banking Amazon gift cards left and right for doing no more than my regular internet searches.  After about a year, they added the ability to earn points in other ways.  You could already earn SB for trying out third party offers and printing coupons, and there were also swagcodes released occasionally for bonus SB.

The addition of surveys for SB was a game changer, as was the ability to earn by shopping and playing games.

After being dangerously close to addiction to the Swagbucks website, I left my job to work from home full-time.  I sort of forgot about Swagbucks, and I have been out of the game for a while.  Recently, I saw an article about it and I logged in to my account.  Imagine my surprise when I realized I had left over 200 Swagbucks on the table!

I played around a little, bought some things I was going to buy online that day anyway, watched a couple of videos and tried a survey.  In a half hour or so I had over 100 more SB.  Needless to say, I am hooked yet again, and I am going to tell you why you should be to.

This is a great site and a great way to make a little extra cash, but not all opportunities are equal.  Why not?  Let me tell you.

How it Works

First, you need to know all the ins and outs of how Swagbucks.com works.  It wasn’t a survey site to begin with.

Now, it has multiple opportunities to earn, surveys included.  It is similar to most other sites in that you can earn points, or in this case SB, for completing various tasks.

Sign up is fast and easy, and no credit card information is required. You simple sign up and get started.

How Much Can You Earn

Let’s be clear from the start.  You are not going to replace a part-time job with Swagbucks. You can, however, make some extra cash.

You can do so more quickly on Swagbucks than on other survey sites also.

This is due to the many ways to earn, many of which are fast and easy.  It isn’t all surveys that you may spend 20 minutes on and screen out of.

How much you can make depends on how you choose to use the site and which opportunities you choose to take advantage of.

Ways to Earn

Surveys

Since this is a survey review site, we will start here.  You can obviously take surveys to earn SB.  Like most survey sites, the surveys vary in length and payout.

Some are worth more, and some take longer, and you never know if you will qualify until you try.

It does seem that here are more higher paying surveys available on Swagbucks than on other sites, so that is a huge plus.

Most state that they can earn between $10 and $20 per month taking surveys if they are consistent in trying.

Videos

Watching videos can earn you between 1 and 5 SB.  You can set them to play in the background so as long as you remember to keep them going, this is an easy way to earn.

Some state they can earn as much as $90 per month watching videos.

nCrave

Complete nCrave tasks and earn a point here and there.  This isn’t a big point earner, but it is fast and easy, so it is worth it if you have a few extra minutes.

Searches

This is my personal favorite.  When you search using the Swagbucks search engine, you may randomly earn a few Swagbucks.

Sometimes you get nothing, but I get something almost every day.  It usually isn’t more than 3 or 4 SB, but sometimes it is 10 or more!  Occasionally I will get SB for searches more than once in a day, but not often.

Referrals

The referral program is pretty awesome.  For each referral that signs up using your link, you will get 10% of the points they earn for life.

That means if they earn 500 points, you will earn 50!  Points can add up fast if you have several active referrals.

Bonuses

There are multiple opportunities for bonus points daily.

Swagcodes

Swagcodes are the most fun in my opinion.  These are codes that can be entered for extra points.

They are released randomly throughout the day on the Swagbucks social media pages, the blog, and other places.  You have to keep an eye out.

The Button

If you install the Swagbucks button, it will notify you when a code is released and take you right to it.

This is new from when I was active on the site several years ago, and it definitely makes downloading the button worth it in my opinion.

You also earn 50 SB when you install the button, and it will take you to anywhere on the site you need to go with just a click.

Daily Goal

Currently, the daily goal is 40 SBs.  If you earn 40 in a day, you are awarded with 4 bonus SB.

Special Offers

Retailers often release promotions for extra SB.  These are not really free, since you have to buy something, but since they are SB above and beyond what is typically offered, they are considered bonus.

For example, if you would normally get 75 SB for purchasing a gift card, the retailer may offer an extra 1,000 SB in addition to the 75 for the next 25 purchasers.

If you are going to buy that gift card anyway, or you are going to be shopping from that store, or you are looking for a gift, and it fits the bill, then this is definitely the kind of opportunity you want to take!

How You Can Make Swagbucks Work for You

Like I said, you aren’t going to replace a job using Swagbucks, but you can definitely supplement your income.

How much you are able to supplement depends on the approach you want to take.  There are a couple of options.

Let it Roll

This is how I approached Swagbucks from the beginning.  I just loaded the search engine and did all my natural web searches through it.  I would rack up several SBs a day, usually around 20, and eventually, I would be able to cash out for a $10 Amazon code.

This is still pretty much my stance, except that I will try a survey now and then if I have time, or put a video on to play if I think about it.  I am also more aware of shopping points, so if I am shopping online, I always check to see if I can get any SBs for it before I order.

Surveys Only

Die-hard survey takers may want to stick to surveys only, and that is fine.  This is one of the best sites out there for taking surveys.  There are plenty to choose from, and they pay well.

The only problem is the one that is prevalent throughout all the survey sites.  You never know if you will qualify until you finish without screening out.

The great thing about surveys is that the SBs are credited to your account immediately.

It can be hard to reach the payout threshold on surveys alone unless you hit a really great streak.  I suggest at the very least using the search engine as well to help your SBs add up more quickly.

This approach is highly organized and will result in the most money in the least amount of time.  It’s efficient, but only you will be able to tell if it is worth your time.

Here is how it works.

  • In the morning, log in and start a video playlist in the background.
  • Go down to the bottom left on your Home screen and check out the daily to-do list.
  • Check anything off the list you can. Try a survey, watch the video, check out the nCrave, and answer the poll.  Those things are free, fast, and easy.
  • Check out the deal of the day and determine if it is useful for you. If so, take advantage.
  • Look at the printable coupons and see if there are any for things you already have on your grocery list. You earn 10 SB per coupon redeemed.
  • Make of list of things you need to purchase. Do you have birthdays coming up that you need to purchase gifts for?  Does anyone in your family need clothing?  Are you getting ready to make a major electronics purchase?
  • If you are ready to make any of these purchases, see what kind of deal you may be able to get through Swagbucks. If you feel you need to wait, wait!
  • Check for Swagcodes, and check every couple of hours again when you get a chance. They are fast to redeem.

Taking some time to follow these steps each morning will maximize your earnings.  Be careful not to slip into the trap of looking for things to buy to get more SBs.

You will only buy things you don’t really need, which is counterproductive.  Having a list of things you need to buy anyway and checking for deals through Swagbucks is a much more productive strategy.

Don’t Hover

This is where Swagbucks can get tricky, but it is really user error, not the site’s fault.

Don’t fall into the time trap of spending all day chasing SBs.

You could literally spend the whole day trying surveys, watching videos, and checking from Swagcodes.

You cannot earn enough on the site to justify this time.

Swagbucks is most definitely not a scam.  People cash in SBs for cash and gift cards every day.  I have myself.

There are complaints about not being awarded Swagbucks that are earned, so be sure to read the fine print.  Many take up to 10 weeks to post, like in the case of redeemed coupons.

Sometimes those earned through shopping take up to 7 days to even show up as pending, and a lot of the special offers have stipulations, such as not crediting SBs until the purchase is complete.

Be informed, knowing exactly what the SBs are awarded for with each deal, and be patient.  If you earned them, they will almost surely show up.  If they really do not, be certain to contact customer service.  That is what they are there for.

The answer to “Does Swagbucks really work?” is a resounding YES!
